The motorcycle arm of BMW continues to show growth in 2011. In June the company posted a 2.1% gain over last years totals. That translates into 11, 863 motorcycles sold in June, 2011. So far this year the company is outselling last year by more than 6%.
The Boxer series is leading sales, to no one’s surprise. Even more predictably, the R1200GS is on the leading edge and continues to be the world’s best selling big bike. Unexpectedly, the K1600 series is moving well. The sale of 1,255 units this early after its debut exceeds the company’s expectations.
The news is rosy this month, but sales have been steadily slowing. Single digit growth is great, but if it can not be maintained the company may struggle. BMW Motorrad has shown growth for two consecutive quarters. If they are able to maintain it for a third it would be a trend and a sign of health.
