At age 26, Casey Stoner has become a common sight on the podium after a MotoGP race, usually occupying the top spot. After all, 34 wins at his tender age is somewhat awe inspiring (or is it 35 with last weekend’s win at Estoril?). Despite his accomplishments and age, Stoner seems poised to call it a career at the end of this season.
According to a Solo Moto story earlier this year, Stoner is ready to dedicate his time to his wife and young daughter. While such a noble pursuit is understandable, MotoGP fans around the world are hoping it is more a rumor than anything else. Apart from fans, the management of Honda’s racing team is in a bit of a fit. The group is desperate to sign their star for as many years as possible.
If his retirement becomes a reality at the end of the season, it will be a tragedy to say good-bye. At the same time it will be good to see a true racing great retire on top of his game with his pride still intact.
