The American website Asphalt and Rubber, the German-language magazine Speedweek, the French magazine Moto Journal all fell for a recent Twitter hoax claiming that racer Valentino Rossi had been spied by former racer Niall Mackenzie visiting the European headquarters of Yamaha.
The initial tweet did in fact come from Mackenzie’s Twitter account. However, it turns out that it was sent after the account had been compromised by a perfect-English tweeting French dude. The French hacker later admitted to a number of journalists looking into the report, that it was indeed he who was behind le tweet de trouble.
Mackenzie has since changed his Twitter 123456 password to 654321 😉
