Polaris Industries has announced that it is recalling Kings Mountain-era Indian-brand motorcycles due to a “defect related to motor safety.”
The recall, for an unknown number of motorcycles, affects motorcycles from model years 2009 to 2013 that were produced from December 10, 2008 to November 1, 2012. Polaris is concerned that the bikes may have been put together with defective rear wheel rims. Bad wheel rims are especially dangerous, since, if they crack, their tires may suddenly go flat and cause motorcycle accidents. And motorcycle accidents are rarely good.
Polaris points out that its most recent model years are good to go. “The recall does not impact the newly launched 2014 Indian Chief motorcycles unveiled by Polaris Industries in Sturgis, South Dakota on August 3,” the bike builder said in a statement.
