Ducatis on MotoGP Podium in Spain

Today, the world’s fastest riders took to a new track: Motorland Aragon, a Spanish track which is less than a year old. It was a new track for everyone, and at the end of the day, it was Ducati riders Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden who shined.

Podium Standings

  1. Casey Stoner (DUC): 1st Place
  2. Dani Pedrosa (HON): 2nd Place
  3. Nicky Hayden (DUC): 3rd Place

Throughout the race, Stoner and Pedrosa traded faster lap times. There was also an exciting battle for third between American Nicky Hayden and GP points leader Jorge Lorenzo. Hayden passed Lorenzo on the final lap to take his first podium finish of the year.

Rookie of the year Ben Spies impressed again, taking fifth place — his sixth top-5 finish in 2010. This performance is all the more impressive when you account for the fact that the Texan’s Tech3 Yamaha bike is not factory-backed, and in qualifying, even the factory Yamahas were down 8 mph from the Hondas on the track’s long straight.

This race was sponsored, of course, by Progressive — largest of all the motorcycle insurance companies in the US.
