Ben Spies Makes History at Indianpolis MotoGP

There are only two MotoGP races in the United States:  Laguna Seca and Indianapolis.  Tomorrow is the latter race.  Today in qualifying, Texan Ben Spies, the 26 year old rookie who has risen meteorically threw the AMA and WSBK ranks, took pole position.  That makes him the first American to take pole position on US soil since Nicky Hayden did so at the 2005 Laguna Seca.  Even more amazing is the fact that Spies rides for a non-factory team, Monster Yamaha Tech 3.

This is truly a historic underdog story.  Peel yourself away from the Motorcycle Insurance Co blog for long enough to watch tomorrow’s race.  It starts at 3:00 EST and should be on SPEED.  For more information on where other riders will be on the starting grid, check out the MotoGP results.
