20% of Motorcycle Riders Have Crashed in the Rain

A recent poll of 1200 UK riders shows that 1 in 5, or 20%, have been in an accident of some kind due to wet weather conditions.  The study, sponsored by Swinton Bikes, a leading UK motorcycle insurance co, was conducted in response to the severe rainy conditions and flooding which Britain has been experiencing.  The company went on to make a number of recommendations for riders who are forced to brave rain or wet roads.

The high points of these wet-weather riding recommendations include:

  • Riding smoothly and shifting as little as possible
  • Remaining alert, especially of manhole covers and painted lines — both of which are slicker in the wet
  • Maximize visibility with an anti-fog visor
